Mend Supplements

Mend "Joint Replacement" and "Repair and Recover" nutritional supplementation is a uniquely designed formula, backed by research, to protect muscle and accelerate healing after a joint replacement. These supplements can be purchased at Texas Orthopedics, or online at mend.me.

Knee Replacement Range of Motion

Range of motion is the primary focus of rehab in the first 6 weeks after a knee replacement. You will be given a plethora of great motion exercises from home health and physical therapy however, these are Dr. Abblitt's favorites.

AAOS Hip Exercises

The more strength and muscle you are able to build prior to surgery, the better opportunity to reduce strength and muscle loss you will have in recovery and beyond. The exercises found below can offer some help with getting started.

Opt-Ortho

Opt Ortho is a helpful website to find recommended DME items such as braces, walkers, and shower assistance devices. This site is not directly affiliated with Dr. Abblitt or Texas Orthopedics and therefore will direct you to outside sites such as Amazon, for the purchasing of items.

Compression Stockings

As a part of our DVT (blood clot) prevention protocol we recommend wearing thigh-high compression stockings for 4 weeks after surgery. The firt 2 weeks you will wear them on both legs, then the next 2 weeks you will wear one only on your surgical leg.  These are to be worn all day but can be removed for sleep. You will be given a pair when you leave the hospital or surgery center but some patients need an additional pair. Below is a link for where you can buy them.

Activity Chart

After a joint replacement, it can often be difficult to gauge how much activity is appropriate. Although each person is unique in their capabilities and recovery course, this chart can be a helpful general guide to moderate activity levels in the first 6 weeks after surgery.

AAOS Knee Exercises
